Jonathan Spencer BSc(Hons) has been a forensic scientist specialising in firearms and related material since 1995. He has made a study of their design, mechanism and performance for more than 30 years. He served ten years on armed anti-terrorist duties with the Royal Air Force Police. He has detailed knowledge of a wide range of sporting and military/paramilitary firearm types including handguns, rifles, shotguns, airguns, machine guns and grenade-launchers. Additionally, he owns a technical reference library relating to firearms that extends to over 1,000 titles.
He is engaged in 75+ cases per annum. These cases have originated from England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Oman, the Philippines, and the United States. He has testified to all levels of Court throughout the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. The English Court of Appeal found Mr. Spencer to be "a most careful and impressive witness" (R v Paul Cleeland [2002] EWCA Crim 293, 13 Feb 02).
Jonathan Spencer is a Member of the Forensic Science Society and the International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts. The subjects of his reports include:
Identification and classification of firearms & components, ammunition, pyrotechnics, electric stun guns, gas sprays and related materials,
Analysis and reconstruction of shooting incidents (aka crime scene reconstruction),
Ballistics and trajectory evaluations and calculations,
Examination of post-mortem and autopsy evidence, including wound assessments,
Examination of crime scenes, vehicles, clothing etc. for bullet damages and other evidence ,
